Ukrainian Military Shell Road to Crimea
Artillery munitions deports in A-2985 unit, close to Novo-Bohdanovka village in Ukraine, broke into flame at around 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Series of explosions prompted evacuating the locals and blocking the traffic, including via the railways. As a result, thousands of Russians heading for the Crimea resorts have found themselves in trains with no food or water.
On Saturday, the firemen failed to contain fire outbreak at the arms depots near Ukrainian village of Novo-Bohdanovka. One of the shells flew for nearly 100 meters and hit facilities used to sort the shells, triggering uncontrolled detonation. The explosions destroyed some of soldier barracks, truck fleet and private houses of Novo-Bohdanovka.
More than 1,500 residents were evacuated from the village, though quite a few refused to flee on pillage fears. The return is planed for today, as nothing threatens the locals now, the emergency officials claim.
Four military were injured in the first hour of fire attack. They were taken to Melitopol hospital for treatment, and two more soldiers were accepted there yesterday. The detonation lowered to an explosion during an hour and a half by Sunday morning vs. the two-minute frequency Saturday. The 150mm/120mm shells burst most of all, hitting the area of around 500 meters.
The officials attribute the accident to unusual heat settled in the region a week ago.
Another backlash of the accident is stoping the traffic at Moscow-Simferopol highway along with the train movement in the direction. The trains heading for southern resorts of Crimea are being redirected via bypassing railways, but the drinking water and food have nearly expired in them, and the passengers are ridden by panic. The people don’t understand where they are and whether the movement will start again.
It is not the first accident happened in A-2985 military unit. This place was the scene of similar disaster in May of 2004, when five people were killed and four injured, and in July of 2005, when the shell wounded a 69-year old resident of Novo-Bohdanovka.
