Turkey Sends Cement
The import of cement to Russia this year is expected to reach 6.5 million tons, more than double the former amount, thanks to the cancellation of the 5-percent import duty on that substance, the Federal Antimonopoly Service reports. There has been a shortage of cement in Russia for the last three years. Last year, with a shortfall of 2 tons, the price of cement rose 40-70 percent. The greatest price rise was noted in the Central Federal District. This year, it is expected to increase in price only by 20-25 percent. The demand for cement in Russia is expected to reach about 70 million tons this year, and 65 million tons of it will be produced domestically.
Dmitry Nosov, deputy general director of the United Cement Co., told Kommersant that his company will double its import of Turkish cement through the Port of Novorossiisk to 400,000 tons this year. Basic Element will import about 1 million tons of cement from Turkey through the same port. OOO Alliance will import cement by rail from Turkey, Germany and Spain for a total of 1.2 million tons. In all, Turkey will provide Russia with about 3 million tons of cement. China will provide 900,000 tons, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine will provide about 700,000 tons each. Egypt and several European countries (Germany, Italy, Denmark, Latvia, Estonia and others) will provide 500,000 tons each. Last year, Russia imported 1 million tons of cement from Turkey and 360,000 tons from China.

Due to the increased imports, cement costs no more now than it did last autumn. The most common types of cement, 400D20 and 500DO, cost 5000-6000 rubles per ton in the Central Federal District, including VAT and transportation costs. Cement accounts for about 7 percent of the cost of every meter of housing in Russia.
