United Russia Creates Background for Medvedev’s Campaign
United Russia has again rotated the leadership in Moscow and regions in an effort to create favorable environment for the election campaign of presidential candidate Dmitry Medvedev.
United Russia’s leader Boris Gryzlov has announced the party’s plans to hold a string of thematic conferences in various regions. The first one will be dedicated to social problems and convened January 18 to 19. The conferences will continue till March 2 and could be regarded as background for the presidential campaign of Dmitry Medvedev, at least some of them will mention the national projects. Of interest is that First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev plans to make public his election program without attracting United Russia.
Meanwhile, United Russia proceeds with shuffling the leaders with secretaries of political councils of Khabarovsk and Krasnoyarsk regions and Yakutia forced to vacate the offices. United Russia got less than the country’s average 64.2 percent there.
Chechnya’s President Ramzan Kadyrov and North Ossetia’s President Teimuraz Mamsurov won’t head the party’s regional departments any longer. Having yielded the office to Chechnya’s PM Odes Baisultanov, Kadyrov has retained control over local United Russia of course, but United Russia executed the order for maintaining the formal distance.
