The Banker’s Top 300 European Banks Listing made out by results of 2005 names as much as 18 banks of Russia. They are Sberbank, Vneshtorgbank, Gazprombank, Uralsib, Mezhprombank, Alfa Bank, FG MDM, Rosbank, the Bank of Moscow, Vneshekonombank, NRB, NOMOS-Bank, Russian Standard, Citibank, Globex, Rosselkhozbank, Promsvyazbank and Ak Bars.
Of them, eight banks - Uralsib, Rosbank, NOMOS-Bank, Russian Standard, Russia’s subsidiary of Citibank, Rosselkhozbank, Promsvyazbank and Ak Bars - were added there for the first time. Including so many banks of our country in The Banker’s Top 300 proves the bank market here shows the steady growth, the analysts speculate.
At the same time, Top 300 European Banks gives just eight banks of Russia if calculated in terms of the asset total.
In part, it could be explained by difference in requirements, said Trust Bank analyst Alexey Demkin. The requirements presented to the capital adequacy are tougher here than under the Basel Agreement. Moreover, the booming market of Russia makes bankers think a step in advance, the analyst said.” It is always necessary to have certain margin of safety by way of the capital surplus to maintain high rates of crediting in future.”
