Kyrgyzstan to Become Original
// Kurmanbek Bakiev describes the bright future of his country
Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev addressed the nation yesterday. He strongly believes the living standard in Kyrgyzstan will reach average world level by 2015. However, it requires the “reconstruction of the country”.
Kurmanbek Bakiev delivered his annual address to the nation in Kyrgyz parliament yesterday. He said that “Kyrgyzstan shall have a new political system by 2010, and reach an economic level sufficient to raise the living standard of Kyrgyz people to the average world level.” The priorities are to enter regional and world technologic unions for processing and selling agricultural products, rare mineral resources, and for communication and tourism services, the president said.

Bakiev intends to reach these basic goals in 3 steps. Bakiev believes the first one is already passed – that is, organizing the unfailing work of all state governing bodies. The second stage is to restore consolidated authority in the country, the supremacy of law, to introduce changes to the constitution, and to form a new political elite. The third step is to create a competitive country – economically, politically, culturally, and socially competitive.

It is for the first time ever that Bakiev expressed concern about the growing work migration from the country. Work migrants contribution to Kyrgyz economy is estimated at $500 million. Kyrgyz experts believe the fact that the president focused on the migration issue is linked to the program for returning former compatriots from CIS states announced in Russia. Independent sources say that nearly 600,000 Kyrgyz citizens may use this program to move to Russia, and 600,000 is 12 percent of Kyrgyz population.
