Hungary to Deliver Food to Russia
Russian President Vladimir Putin met Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany in his Sochi residence of Bocharov Ruchey yesterday. Kommersant correspondent Andrey Kolesnikov reports.
The prime minister of this Central European country could not but speak about the most pressing Russia-related topic for Europe – the energy one.
“Diplomatic equivoques – this is what we need the least now,” the Hungarian prime minister told Putin. “Europe needs Russian energy, and Russia needs European clients.”
Ferenc Gyurcsany noted that energy policy now means more than just economic cooperation. “This is a global political challenge. We do need the united European energy policy, but we also need open and friendly energy cooperation between Europe and Russia,” he said. “We are bound together for a long time. There is a lot of mutual interests and projects involved here. I think Russia has set a brilliant example of how these relations can be built on the basis of mutual interests.”
Hungary’s premier said that his country and Russia had signed a number of blueprints for Hungary to become a key juncture in o the Russian energy supply to Europe. Gyurcsany also pointed out to his country’s booming agriculture and forecast Hungary’s coming agricultural expansion. The prime minister also mentioned that the Hungarians want not only supply Russia with their food but also help modernize agriculture and food industry in Russia.
