The Prison Chief Goes at Large
On Monday, the trio of inmates from Kapotnya prison of Moscow took hostages the chief of the prison and 14 subordinates in an effort to make the authorities revise their verdicts. Officers of special services released the hostages in the evening, killing no one in the operation.
In Kapotnya prison of southeastern Moscow, the hostages were taken Monday at 3:00 p.m., MSK, when the prisoners were being convoyed for a walk. Armed by the glass chips, three inmates attacked their guards, tied and undressed them. Having put on the camouflage uniform, the inmates made their way to administrative premises of detention facility to take hostages there. Chief of the prison, Leonid Nogtich, was among the first caught by them, and the prisoners used his office to lock themselves up together with hostages.

The exact number of hostages wasn’t known for sure. The prisoners said they had 15 people, while the enforcement officials thought there were no more than three of them. By taking hostages, the inmates attempted to force the authorities to review their verdicts. Two of the trio were serving 25 years for murder, while the third one had nine years for robbery.

Officers of Fakel special services released the hostages at around 9 p.m. They were 15 in number, nine women and six men. The officers also applied the redressing trick. Disguised by the warden uniform, they managed to approach the inmates’ headquarters and throw a dazzle and noise grenade there. After it, they broke into the room and tied up the prisoners. The operation took no more than 15 seconds and there were no victims.

The backlash of this hostage-taking entertainment of prisoners is predictable. The chief will hardly grow mellow, while the detention procedures will be toughened for sure and every prisoner will suffer in the end.
