Abkhazian Gets 11 Years in Prison for Spying for Georgia
The Supreme Court of the breakaway republic of Akhazia has sentenced Kistoman Ilyasova to 11 years in prison for spying for Georgia, the ITAR-TASS news agency reported.
Abkhazian police arrested Ilyasova late March at the Ochamchirsky port where she was taking pictures of the berth and ships to hand them over to Georgian intelligence agencies.
The verdict was pronounced on Thursday. It says that Georgia’s State Security Ministry recruited Ilyasova to help Georgia in “hostile activities against Republic of Abkhazia.” The defendant pleaded guilty of passing photographs of military units of the Eastern Force of the Abkhazian Defense Ministry as well as information about the personnel and armament.
A representative of the UN Human Rights office attended the court session.
