Russia Opposes Georgia’s, Ukraine's Membership in NATO
Moscow has confirmed its negative attitude towards NATO’s potential expansion to Georgia and Ukraine.
According to the RF Foreign Policy Concept released via the web of the president, Russia is yet negative about NATO’s expansion, in particular about the plans of admitting Ukraine and Georgia to the alliance members, as well as to nearing of NATO’s military infrastructure to Russia’s borders in general.

The concept says that expansion of NATO outbalances the principle of equal security, leads to appearance of new borderlines in Europe and contradicts the purpose of improving joint activities to respond to the actual challenges of today’s reality.

Russia will be building up relations with the alliance with regard to its readiness for equal partnership, strict observance of principles and norms of the international laws, fulfillment by all members of the commitment that was assumed in the framework of NATO-Russia Council and that bans them from ensuring security for the sake of security of the Russian Federation.
