Moscow Mayor Urges to Terminate Friendship Treaty with Ukraine
Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov has urged to terminate Russia’s-Ukrainian Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation instead of extending it, RIA Novosti news agency reported.
“The development of events that currently happen in Ukraine is inadmissible. It doesn’t correspond to the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership of 1998 in part and in whole,” Luzhkov announced Tuesday during the sitting of the students’ government of Moscow.

“I am sure our country should decide on terminating this Treaty instead of extending it,” the mayor pointed out.

The state belonging of Sevastopol isn’t clear, Luzhkov said in May during the celebration of the RF Black Sea Fleet anniversary. This statement of the Moscow mayor clouded the relations of Kiev and Moscow, President Viktor Yushchenko banned Luzhkov from entering Ukraine and committed the cabinet to elaborate a bill on terminating international agreements on the RF Black Sea Fleet deployment in Ukraine starting from 2017.

The RF State Duma passed June 4 a resolution specifying the potential denunciation of the Treaty should Ukraine join NATO.
