Deported U.S. Attachés Attempted to Visit Military Aviation Plant in Novosibirsk
The U.S. attachés that were expelled from Russia in early May had attempted to enter a military aviation plant in Novosibirsk city of Siberia, The New York Times reported referring to several American officials.
According to The New York Times, an Army lieutenant colonel and a Navy lieutenant commander, who worked in the U.S. embassy in Moscow, were stopped at the gates of Chkalov Novosibirsk Aviation Production Association in Novosibirsk, Siberia, as they had no permits to visit the facilities.
Whether the visit is tied to expulsion of military attachés is yet unclear, as neither the United States nor Russia has commented on the accident for the record.
Russia’s authorities demanded May 8, 2008 that two officials of the U.S. embassy in Moscow should leave the country. The United States expressed disagreement but honored the request.
Chkalov Novosibirsk Aviation Production Association is involved in a number of government’s programs, including the production of Su-34 fighter-bombers and the projects of Sukhoi Superjet 100 and An-38.
