Abkhazians Says Drone Carried Rocket
Abkhazian Deputy Minister of Defense Garri Kupalba has alleged that the unpiloted reconnaissance plane shot down on May 8 in the Ochamchir district of Abkhazia was armed with an air-to-air missile, RIA Novosti reports. Kupalba said the ammunition on the craft presented a threat to the civilian population and peacekeepers in the conflict zone. The Abkhazian Defense Ministry showed journalists fragments of the downed craft.
According to the Abkhazian military, Abkhazian antiaircraft ground weapons shot down the Georgian drone over the settlement of Gudava in the Gali district. The fragments fell to the ground near the settlement of Nabakevi, not far from a peacekeepers’ observation post. A crater was formed where the craft landed.

The Abkhazian military also claims that another drone was discovered in the same area on May 8. Because it flew along the same course used by international civilian aircraft, the Abkhazian Defense Ministry decided not to shoot it down.
