Great Wall Sanctioned to Construct Carmaker in Russia
China’s Great Wall has sealed an agreement with the RF Economic Development and Trade Ministry to construct an automobile plant, Interfax reported with reference to the statement of Great Wall foreign sales director.
The facilities will be constructed in Russia’s Tatarstan and have the annual capacity of up to 50,000 cars to begin with. Great Wall is ready to invest $10 million at the first stage of the project.
Great Wall presented three new cars at the Interavto-2007 Motor Show that opened in Moscow today. They are a town hatchback Florid with a diesel or gasoline engine, a town minivan for eight persons and a super cute hatchback for narrow streets and with the fuel-efficient engine of 87 hp.
Great Wall that first announced the plans to build a plant here more than a year and a half ago blames the delay on bureaucratic footdragging that is so popular in Russia. The application to Economic Development and Trade Ministry, for instance, was filed about three months ago.
