Prosecutors Urge Media Not to Fan the Flame
The RF Prosecutor General Office declines to provide any details about the persons detained over Politkovskaya murder and recommend to journalists not to fan the flame around investigation.
”We advise to reporters to be more accurate with various kinds of information from unofficial sources and refrain from publishing the reports that may hinder investigation,” RIA Novosti announced with reference to a spokesman of the RF Prosecutor General Office.

Certain media released Tuesday the reports giving names of the persons allegedly detained over Politkovskaya murder.

Earlier on Monday, Russia’s Prosecutor General Yury Chaika told the reporters that 10 people were arrested on suspicion of murdering Anna Politkovskaya. Five of them were once employed with enforcement bodies, while another is a leader of the Moscow organized criminal group from Chechnya. They arrested direct arrangers, accomplices and killers, Chaika said, specifying that investigators identified the person who had ordered the crime. That person is hiding abroad, the official specified.

Only one name has been officially given so far. Half Colonel Pavel Ryaguzov from the Moscow department of FSB was arrested on August 21 on suspicion of “illegal actions over Anna Politkovskaya case,” said Alexander Kupryazhkin, chief of security department at FSB.

Novaya Gazeta investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya was shot dead in Moscow October 7, 2006 as she left her apartment to get into the lift.
